Rodney Billups will enter his first season with the University of Denver men's basketball team. Billups comes to Denver after spending six seasons on Tad Boyle’s staff at the University of Colorado.
During Billups’s tenure with the coaching staff, the Buffaloes’ have accumulated 130 victories, which have included five of CU’s nine 20+ winning seasons in school history. The Buffaloes’ have had six-straight seasons of post-season play (2010-2016) and three-straight NCAA Tournament berths (2011-14) and a fourth appearance in 2016.
Dan Ficke (Denver, Colo.) will enter his second season as men's basketball assistant coach in 2016-17. Ficke comes to Denver after spending time at both Loyola University Maryland and Wake Forest University.
Ficke joined the Loyola staff after spending three seasons at Wake Forest University. In 2012-2013 Ficke served as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach/Director of Scouting and Recruiting. Prior to that, he was the program's Assistant Director of Operations from 2010-2012.
Ricardo Patton enters his first season with the University of Denver men's basketball team in 2016-17. Patton comes to DU having spent 11 seasons as the head coach for the University of Colorado and four seasons with Northern Illinois. Patton led the Buffaloes to six postseason appearances, including two NCAA Tournament berths. The Buffaloes defeated Bobby Knight’s Indiana team in the first round of the 1997 tournament before falling to a Dean Smith-led North Carolina team in the round of 32.
Steve Snell will enter his first season as men's basketball assistant coach in 2016-17. Snell spent last season as an associate head coach at Santa Clara. A 24-year coaching veteran, Snell was also at Air Force for eight seasons, the final two years as associate head coach after spending two seasons as a member of the coaching staff at Louisiana-Monroe. He helped the Warhawks to the co-championship of the Sun Belt's West Division in 2006-07 with an 18-14 record, including a perfect 14-0 mark at home.
Dwight Thorne enters his first year as Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Denver in 2016-17. Thorne played college basketball at the University of Colorado and graduated with a degree in marketing in 2010. He spent last season at Georgia Tech as a graduate assistant. The Yellow Jackets finished the 2015-16 with a 21-15 record and a quarterfinal appearance in the National Invitation Tournament.
